OUR WINES

2008 Sauvignon blanc

Vineyard Notes:

Mostly a Sauvignon Musque clone, from two vineyards and two growers: Lanny Capp's Inn Ranch (right next to the Cabernet, very Bordelaise), and Gary Mangle’s Morrison Road Ranch. Mangels' place is a heavier clay soil, and produces grapes with a healthy zest and good varietal character that act as the foundation we build our Sauvignon Blanc off of. Lanny's vineyard is a little higher elevation on better drained soils, and provides the wild, complex aromas and flavors that Manifesto! has become known for.

Tasting Notes:

Harvested over 6 days: 4 in mid August and 2 in early September. The SB rockets through fermentation, and we rack off the heaviest lees right away and blend together to prevent malo-lactic fermentation which keeps the wine crisp and true to its origins (it doesn't taste like butter). Though it ages on fine lees for 4 or 5 months in tank, it tastes and smells distinctive right away: lemon zest, orange cream and kiwi in the nose; Meyer lemon, green apple, all kinds of citrus, and that darn orange creamsicle character again in the mouth. All this carried through by a bright, crisp acidity that stands up to foods many red wines even run away from.

2007 Sauvignon Blanc Suisun Valley

Here’s what we taste:

Ripe Meyer lemons, pink grapefruits and orange peel. Throw in a little orange creamsicle and guava too. Smell the vibrant nose of citrus peel, grapefruit, and pine needles, as well as secondary aromas of pineapple, guava and gardenia. The mouthfeel is crisp, but not too tart, and has ample roundness.

Alcohol: 14.1%   |   TA: .71   |   pH: 3.26

OK. That’s the fancy stuff. File it away. And then bust this out:

This is white wine that doesn’t disappear when you drink it. Know what we mean? Someone says, “Red or white?” You say, “Red,” like they just asked if you want red or rotten milk. Maybe, just maybe, you think white seems a tad, um, inconsequential. But not anymore. Our white wine has actual flavor—and some backbone. Sure, it’s still cool and refreshing, but it doesn’t stop there. It looks at that edge and then leaps right over.

Plus, you know what? Cool and refreshing ain’t a bad thing at all. Especially on a beach. With a date. Who seems like they might be starting to like you…
